Nicholas James Charles

Senior Executive for Strategy and Corporate Development Sarawak Energy

Nicholas James Charles holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Sunway University, Malaysia.

He is a sustainability-driven professional with experience across sustainable investment, economic development and ESG strategy. He began his career at FTSE Russell, specialising in ESG and sustainable investment and worked with global frameworks such as TCFD and GRI. He later moved into advisory roles at the Big 4, where he led masterplans, ESG blueprint development and economic impact assessments for the Sarawak Government.

Nicholas currently serves as a Senior Executive with Sarawak Energy’s Strategy and Corporate Development department. In this role, he supports long-term planning and contributes to shaping the company’s clean energy agenda through cross-functional collaboration and strategic alignment.

He believes that youth are not only future leaders but also active agents of change. Through bridging culture, data and storytelling, Nicholas advocates for inclusive and actionable climate solutions rooted in local identity.
