Adopt a Tree

For every registration at SAREF 4.0, a tree will be planted in Sarawak, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability, climate action and the target of planting 1,000 trees this year through this initiative.

SAREF 4.0 is more than a platform for sustainability dialogue – it is a place where ideas take root and actions grow. The Adopt a Tree initiative, newly introduced this year, allows SAREF 4.0 delegates to contribute to nature-based solutions that support climate action. Each registered delegate will receive a digital certificate representing a tree adopted at the Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary.

On 10 July 2025, in the lead-up to SAREF, Sarawak Energy launched the ‘Adopt a Tree’ programme and planted 1,000 trees at the Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary.

This initiative is part of Sarawak Energy’s Tree Planting, Protection and Habitat Restoration Campaign 2021–2030, which aims to plant 500,000 trees in support of the national Greening Malaysia campaign.

To date, Sarawak Energy has planted and protected close to 200,000 trees across Sarawak – led by teams at its assets and facilities and in collaboration with local communities and authorities.

The campaign is an important part of Sarawak Energy’s commitment to environmental stewardship and climate action as each tree planted contributes to:

Capturing carbon to help combat climate change

Restoring ecosystems and protecting biodiversity

Working together with communities and partners to achieve lasting environmental impact
