Dr. Wei-nee’s career in sustainability began in 2005, when she transitioned from IT to environmental sustainability, specifically focusing on the sustainable energy sector, serving the Ministry of Energy at Putrajaya for nearly 15 years. The first 5 years were under a UNDP-GEF project (Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic) and the remaining tenure in the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA).
She is a climate change advocate, participating in global platforms, including the World Government Summit in Dubai, International Energy Agency (IEA) workshops, Asia Clean Energy Forums and various United Nations roundtables.
In 2020, she shifted her focus from energy transition in the electricity sector to the upstream oil and gas sector, and was appointed the VP of New Energy Ventures at Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd. Her doctoral thesis focuses on women’s leadership and personal branding. Today, she serves in advisory panel to the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation, Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association, REDD+ Finance Framework, COP28 under MNRECC and is involved in technical working groups in carbon and energy-related platforms.
