Dr. Georgios Papaefthymiou works as Principal Consultant at the Power System Development and Operations Department of Elia Grid International. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in the power sector. Georgios’ work mainly focuses on preparing optimal pathways for the evolution of power systems towards decarbonisation, dealing with topics interfacing system planning, system operations and market design. Georgios has been working on a series of grid planning projects on the interconnection of offshore wind farms with Elia Group, and internationally on the assessment of business cases of (offshore) interconnection projects in terms of financial feasibility, CBA, CBCA, and market/regulatory design.
He has been leading a series of studies for the European Commission on the development of offshore grids in the Northern European Seas, investigating the detailed design, the benefits and the regulatory implications from the adoption of meshed offshore grids.
