Sue-Ern Tan is the Head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Regional Cooperation Centre in Singapore – the IEA’s first and only office outside its Paris headquarters. From this regional base, she leads efforts to support Southeast Asian governments in tackling key energy challenges, including energy security, clean energy deployment, regional power system integration and access to sustainable finance. A core part of her role involves collaboration with government, industry and multilateral stakeholders to address both current and future energy security concerns.
Tan brings extensive international experience across the public and private sectors. Before joining the IEA, she held senior roles in climate and energy at Shell, with postings in London, The Hague and Singapore. She previously served as a ministerial adviser on energy in Australia, was Deputy CEO of a minerals industry association and practised law.
She holds a degree from the University of New South Wales and was selected as an Eisenhower Fellow in the 2017 International Programme, representing Australia. With a career spanning policy, industry and innovation, Tan is committed to advancing pragmatic, collaborative solutions to support a resilient and inclusive energy future in Southeast Asia and beyond.
