Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Bin Abdul Ghani earned a Bachelor’s in Economics (Majoring in Statistics) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1979. He later received a Master of Science in Human Resource Administration from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA, in 1998. He also completed a Senior Executive Fellowship from Harvard University, USA, in 2006. Additionally, he holds Honorary Doctorates from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia, and Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
He has held a spectrum of key roles, including Director of City for Kuching North Commission (DBKU); Director of Human Resource Unit for the Chief Minister’s Department; Director of Human Resource Development and Quality Unit for the Chief Minister’s Department; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation; Director of State Planning Unit for Chief Minister’s Department; Deputy State Secretary of Planning and Development; Deputy State Secretary of Administration, Security and Corporate Affair; and the State Secretary. Prior to this, he worked as a PETRONAS Executive for eight years.
Aside from being the Chairman of Centre of Technology Excellence Sarawak and one of the board members of Sarawak Energy, Tan Sri Morshidi also has board membership in entities such as Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Development Bank of Sarawak Berhad (DBOS), Sarawak Trade Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
