Darmawan Prasodjo, Ph.D., is the President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia’s state-owned energy enterprise. With decades of experience, Darmawan is a recognised expert in energy, electricity and climate change. He excels in both theoretical and practical risk mapping and mitigation strategies across institutions.
Darmawan’s expertise in investment and corporate finance has enabled him to identify opportunities and shape the company’s vision. He is well-versed in legal and regulatory aspects, oil and gas, electricity contracts, macroeconomics and policy support, having worked in the Executive Office of the President in the energy and infrastructure sector.
Under his leadership, Darmawan successfully renegotiated IPP contracts during the COVID-19 pandemic, saving over IDR 47 trillion and cancelling 1.3GW of CFPP, preventing 200 million tons of CO2 emissions annually. His transformation programme resulted in record financial performances, with IDR 13.1 trillion in 2021 and IDR 14.4 trillion in 2022.
Darmawan led PLN’s largest-ever restructuring, establishing Holding Subholding companies. The four subholdings – PLN Nusantara Power, PLN Indonesia Power, PLN Energi Primer Indonesia and PLN Icon Plus – are now leaders in their fields and driving a digital-based business ecosystem.
